US Secretary of State's visit is to express US solidarity - US State Department

COLOMBO (News 1st): Against a backdrop where several Asian countries have been influenced by the United States of America, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is hoping to visit Sri Lanka on the 24th of this month. Spokesperson of the US State Department Morgan Ortagus said the Secretary of State is visiting several key countries in the Asian region to advance their shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific. Secretary Pompeo will arrive in the island following his visit to New Delhi and meeting with the Indian Prime Minister. He will visit Sri Lanka on the 24th of June and is due to remain until the 30th of this month. Spokesperson for the US State Department Ortagus stated that Pompeo's visit would be to express America's solidarity with the people of Sri Lanka as they stand united against the despicable attacks on the 21st of April. In addition, Ortagus claimed that Pompeo is also to discuss promising opportunities for US-Sri Lanka cooperation based on shared commitments to a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
