Colombo (News 1st): Remains of an elephant have been discovered in Demaliya, Wellwaya. The News 1st correspondent in the area noted that area residents had informed officials attached to the Kithukotte wildlife department.
Veterinarian in charge of the Uva and Central provinces, Dr Dharmakeerthi conducted the post mortem examination. The post mortem examination revealed that the elephant had died due to injuries caused by shooting.
Wildlife officers said that two lead bullets were discovered from the remains of the elephant. The elephant was 7 ft 5 inches in height, and 20 years of age.
