BIA janitor arrested with jewellery worth Rs. 1bn

COLOMBO (News 1st): A female janitor at the BIA has been arrested with jewellery weighing over 2kg. Media spokesperson for the Customs, Sunil Jayaratne said that the seized jewellery is valued at over Rs. 1 billion. Preliminary investigations revealed that the stock of jewellery was handed over to the lady by a passenger. She was arrested during an attempt to smuggle the jewellery. Upon arrest, the security forces at the BIA had handed over the suspicious woman to the customs. Further investigations are ongoing into the incident.
