Copper factory: Wellampitiya OIC transferred

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The OIC of the Wellampitiya Police was transferred with immediate effect to the Galle Division. Police Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasakara noted the transfer was done with the approval of the National Police Commission.The Wellampitiya Police faced a barrage of allegations after 09 Wellampitiya Copper Factory workers, allegedly linked to the terror attack, were granted bail. The release of nine suspects who were employed in Wellampitiya Copper Factory which was owned by Insaf Ahamed, the suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Shangri-La Hotel on the 21st of April raised concerns among authorities and concerned citizens. Investigations into the incident led to the transfer of Wellamitiya police division OIC. A separate probe under the instructions of the Acting IGP is underway into the matter.
