Colombo (News 1st): Speaking at another media briefing convened today (22), UPFA MP S.B. Dissanayake noted that they can clearly see that the government, specifically Minister Rajitha Senaratne and the Prime Minister are attempting to place the responsibility for this on President Maithripala Sirisena. He noted that they all know that the President wanted to remove the IGP but could not do it as per the 19th amendment and it is also known that with regard to the plot to assassinate the President, there is a close connection between the police officer whose voice was heard on the recording and the IGP. MP Dissanayake added that they can see clearly now that this catastrophe befell them because this officer failed to act on this investigation, despite all the Senior DIG's, DIG's, SPs, ASPs, OICs and other security divisions being informed. He went onto note that this IGP must resign immediately. He said as the SLFP they will speak with the Joint Opposition and swiftly put forward a motion in parliament to remove him. The parliamentarian noted that they believe that the speaker intervened greatly to appoint this person as the IGP whilst removing several other senior officers, however, this time, the UNP and the Prime Minister, will call on him to resign immediately taking into consideration this situation. He added that action can be taken against these persons under Section 5 of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, for concealing information.
