Colombo (News 1st): Following an event in Kandy, Minister Lakshman Kiriella commented about statements made on the change of governments and presidential candidates. When questioned regarding the talks on forming a new government, he noted that there is no such thing and that a majority of 113 is required to form any government. He went onto note that if a government is formed with no majority, that government will also have to face what Mahinda Rajapaksa faced. He was also questioned regarding preparations for presidential elections. Kiriella questioned as to how the other party will choose their candidate as the candidate will be chosen by the family members since it is a monarchy. He said the United National Party is a people's party and their candidate will be chosen by the Working Committee and the MPs. He noted that they hope their party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will contest. Kiriella pointed out that the so-called candidate of the Pohottuwa Party has cases filed against him internationally. He said it is a shame and noted that if they had someone from their government with such a claim, they would never keep him with them.
