COLOMBO (News 1st): Motor Traffic DIG Ajith Rohana has urged the public to refrain from driving after consuming alcohol. He has requested the public to either have a designated driver or use public/hired transport, if under the influence.

“People driving under the influence of liquor will be arrested, and their vehicles will be impounded until investigations are completed,” said DIG Ajith Rohana.

According to the DIG, 25,000 breathalyzer units have been imported and already distributed among Police stations across the country.

Meanwhile, around 8,000 police officers have been deployed island-wide to control traffic and prevent accidents during the festive season, while 2,400 Police officers have been deployed in Colombo and the suburbs to maintain road safety.
