Colombo (News 1st): Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was overseas, arrived on the island this morning (April 12). The former defence secretary was warmly welcomed at the airport, by a large group including several MPs from the Podu Jana Permuna. Speaking to journalists he noted that the main reason he left to the USA is to discuss matters with lawyers and take the necessary steps to denounce his US citizenship. He noted that his efforts were successful, however, the next step is to clear all allegations that have been levelled against him in Sri Lanka. Rajapaksa went onto note that he will submit the necessary documents when requested. He said it was during this period, while he served as the defence secretary, nearly 10 to 12 years ago, that a civil case was filed against him regarding the death of a journalist and another individual. He noted that according to US laws, they must issues summons to him, however, he has not received any summons as of yet. He said his lawyers in the US are working to get the case dismissed in courts. Gotabaya Rajapaksa added that several sectors have influenced this matter. He noted that an NGO that belongs to the LTTE diaspora, and a Consul General's office in California were involved in this regard. He noted that it is unfair to engage in politics in such a low and cheap manner.
