Ex-Navy Commander concludes recording statement on disappearance of 11 youth

COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Criminal Investigations Department informed Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, that it had concluded recording of statements from former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda.

The statements were recorded over the abduction and enforced disappearance of eleven youths from Colombo in 2008. Two former Lieutenant Commanders of Sri Lanka Navy, Prasad Hettiarachchi and Sampath Munasinghe and five other suspects who were arrested and remanded over the incident were produced in court today (April 09).

The Fort Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake ordered for the suspects to be remanded until April 23rd.

The CID informed court it will probe the veracity of the statements provided by former Navy Commander Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda and produce a progress report at a future hearing.
