Colombo (NEWS 1st) The JVP raised two important points in Parliament today(March 27): Abolishing of the Grade 5 scholarship examination and admission of Grade 1 students.
JVP MP Bimal Rathnayake noted that a new circular dictates 3 points awarded based on the residence has been removed and as a result, those in close proximity to schools have a hard time applying. He questioned whether the government would intend to reimplement the point system in 2020 intake. He finally inquired the government’s position regarding the President’s statement on abolishing the Grade 5 scholarship examination.
Gayantha Karunatillake, the Chief Government Whip acknowledged that both were sensitive and complex matters and added that the Education Minister is entitled to provide a written response regarding them.
