COLOMBO (News 1st) - The residents of Baragama, Ambalantota staged a protest demanding the restoration of a proper water supply. The residents state that the Randiyawara Village water programme distributed water across five villages. Over 1900 families who benefited from the program did not get their usual supply of water for the past three months. The protestors arrived at the Randiyawara Village Water Project Office premises to express their dismay. The protesters demanded that the project be handed over to the Water supply and Drainage Board. They allege that the current disruption of water supply is due to the misuse of public funds by the officials. H. K. G. Jayasena, Officer-in-Charge denied these allegations and stated that the current situation is a result of a malfunctioning water pump. He added that the water supply would be restored by this Saturday (March 23) as they are to receive a new water pump. The protestors dispersed with the arrival of the Ambalantota police and after the promise that the matter will be resolved by Saturday(March 23).
