140th Battle of the Blues; Thomians emerge victorious

COLOMBO (News 1st) - After 12 years St. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia secured victory over Royal College in the 140th Battle of the Blues. St.Thomas' College defeated Royal College by 7 wickets to reclaim the D.S. Senanayake Memorial Shield. The lads from Mt. Lavinia last won the annual big match in 2007. Royal College who batted first were bowled out for 158runs. St. Thomas' College in replied with a bold 296. In their second innings, the lads from Reid Avenue put on a better performance with the bat and put up 259 on the scoreboard. Chasing 122 for victory, St. Thomas' College cruised to victory with just 3 wickets down. Shalin de Mel top-scored for St. Thomas' College with 67 while Sithara Hapuhinna chipped in with 34.
