Voice against animal cruelty demonstrates in Kandy

Colombo (News 1st): A "Silent Vigil" was held today (Mar 2) in Kandy to raise a voice against animal cruelty. Members from several animal welfare societies and animal lovers in the vicinity joined the protest. The protesters mainly charged on the inhumanity meted on more than 38 spayed and fully vaccinated community dogs who have been living for years in and around the the Temple of the Tooth Relic and other devalas without causing inconvenience to anyone. The protesters said that these dogs had been overdosed with potent sedatives in the night over several days prior to last Poya Day. The dying, dead and unconscious dogs were loaded into vehicles and dumped in undisclosed locations. The protesters requested the responsible authorities of the vicinity to look in to the incident.
