OIC Hit & Run : 1 remanded 7 including MP's son bailed out

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Seven out of the eight individuals who were arrested in connection to the hit and run that injured the Traffic OIC, Borella police have been granted bail. The eight suspects were produced before Colombo Additional Magistrate, Isuru Neththikumara. The Additional Magistrate ordered the driver, Udesh Ratnayake to be remanded until 11th of March. The arrested suspects include a CMC councillor, the son of Mahindananda Aluthgamage and the son of a Superintendent of Police. When the suspects were summoned to court all other personnel including journalists were asked to leave the premises. According to Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara the arrested suspects are individuals who were in the Defender involved in the hit and run as well as the individuals who were in the Prado that was travelling behind the Defender. The accident which occurred in the Bambalapitiya area at around 4.30am on Sunday (Feb 24) injured the Traffic OIC of the Borella Police. The officer is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the National Hospital.
