Custodian of vehicle filled with Kerala Ganja arrested

Colombo (News 1st): The brother of the owner of the SUV in which 68 kg of Kerala Ganja was discovered in, was arrested by the Police. Police stated that the driver of the SUV had fled the scene following the accident. An SUV full of Kerala Ganja crashed into a pedestrian bridge in Maradana between 3-4 AM today (Feb 14).  The passengers and driver had bolted from the scene. Explaining the incident a witness noted that they following a loud noise, a man dressed in a red shirt and black trousers got down from the vehicle and stopped a three-wheeler. She noted that once he got a three-wheeler he returned to the vehicle and grabbed few documents and left in the three-wheeler. She added that he had asked them to leave stating that the vehicle will be taken by the finance company. The vehicle is now in the custody of the Maradana police. Police stated that approximately 68 kilos of Kerala Ganja was inside the vehicle. The stock of Kerala Ganja has been handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau. Police said the owner of the SUV - a woman - is employed in the Middle East and the SUV was rented out to a hotel in Bambalapitiya. The man who was arrested, was the custodian of the SUV. Police suspect that the vehicle obtained through a lease, was utilized to transport Kerala Ganja. Speaking to News 1st Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara noted that following the search of the registration number (WP CAA 0611) they obtained information regarding the owner of the vehicle. He added that the SUV was rented out to a vehicle renting company in Bambalapitiya. SP Gunasekara added that the suspects had rented the vehicle from this company on the 11th of this month and that further investigations are underway.
