Funerals of fallen peacekeepers to be held today

Colombo (News1st) - The funerals of the two Army officers who died in an attack in Douentza in Mali on the 25th of January will be held today. Major H. W. D Jayawickreme's remains are kept at his residence in Pulasthipura, Polonnaruwa. The funeral will take place at around 3.00 pm today at the Pulasthipura Abhayapura public burial grounds. The remains of Sergeant S. S Wijayakumara are currently lieing at his residence in Polpithigama, Kurunegala. Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa and Johnston Fernando and many other parliamentarians arrived last evening to pay their last respects. According to oue correspondant,Sergeant S. S Wijayakumara's funeral will take place in the afternoon at the Rawaela,Polpithigama public burial grounds. Three others were injured when their convoy came under an Improvised Explosive Device attack on the 25th of January 2019.
