Colombo (News1st): Minister Mano Ganesan announced this evening (Feb 1) that an agreement was reached at the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to temporarily suspend the publication of the gazette notification on the collective agreement which was signed on the daily wage of estate workers.
The Minister of Plantation Industry and the Minister of Labour was also present at the meeting. Minister Mano Ganesan noted that the Tamil Progressive Alliance will hold another discussion with the ministers and the companies on Tuesday and will ask for the Rs. 140 increase that was the main request for a long time.
The minister said the Tamil Progressive Alliance will look into the outcome of these discussions before deciding on their future course of action. According to Minister Mano Ganesan they have granted the government ten more days to look into the matter. He noted that if the government cannot provide the solution they will not remain in the government.
