Colombo (News1st): The State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene who obtained blessings from the Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Kandy this morning, called on the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapter of the Siam sect. Speaking about the constitution the State Minister noted that a report has been presented addin that for a draft of the constitution to be approved it has to go through the cabinet, passed in parliament and also approved by the President.  He noted that it is a massive task and therefore cannot be completed easily. The Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Chapter questioned him about rumours that the constitution would be introduced before the 4th of February. State Minister Wijewardene said it cannot be brought in such a short time as it is only a draft as of now. He added that it would definitely require a 2/3rd majority and also a referendum. The state minister who later called on the Cheif Prelate of the Malwatu Chapter of the Siam Sect was also questioned about the new constitution. The Thero noted that if everyone has approved to it unanimously they should carry on. He added that if the government brings in a constitution and the others do not approve of it, it will not work. The Thero noted that whatever is done, it should be done together.  He said the people are going through many hardships, a proper process should be put in place to resolve this.
