Colombo (News1st) - The Global Sri Lankan Forum convened a media briefing yesterday to create awareness about the 40th Conference on Protection of Human Rights in 2019 in Geneva. Jayaraj Palihawadana, Secretary of the Global Sri Lankan Forum in UK stated that Tamil political parties were able to exert a great deal of pressure during the period in which Sri Lanka was suffering from political instability.  Palihawadana claimed that while they have been proceeding with their own plans, an individual named Madivanan of the Tamil Elam group is filing a petition to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court. He noted that the Tamil Diaspora is using the instability in Sri Lanka to fulfill their goals. Att.-at-Law Nuwan Ballanthudawa, Resident Coordinator of the Global Sri Lankan Forum in UK, stated that the next one and a half years will be critical because both Ranil Wickremesinghe and his group, as well as the international community, have been backed into a corner. He claimed that these groups will do everything in their power to bring an amendment to the constitution or bring about a federal solution during this time period. Suminda Ranathunge representing the Global Sri Lankan Forum in Ireland stated that when PM Ranil Wickremesinghe came to Ireland he took steps to appoint a foreign national as the Consulate general to represent the Sri Lankan community in Ireland. While noting that this decision was criticised by many, Ranatunge stated that even the Preisdent might not be aware of this situation.
