COLOMBO (News 1st) - Train drivers involved in the transportation of fuel continued their strike for a second day today (November 27). The strike was launched yesterday (November 26) when a group of residents in the area attacked a fuel train engine travelling from Kolonnawa to Orugodawaththa.
Secretary of the Train Driver's association Indika Dodangoda said the strike will be carried out until and unless the relevant authorities resolve their issues.
When Newsfirst asked for comment from the Railway Department, Security Superintendent Anura Premarathna said security officers have been deployed for the protection of the trains while support from the Police has also been requested.
The police stated that three people have been arrested on suspicion of attacking the train. They are to be presented before the Hulftsdorp court.
