Colombo (News 1st) - The JVP proposed the adjournment motion debate in parliament today which focused on the current political crisis. MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the ruling party wished to prevent the official announcement of the vote in Parliament and hence acted in a disruptive manner. He went on to state that decisions were made by the parliament on the 14th, 15th and 16th November. He also noted that the Parliament is not beholden to the Executive and nor is it under the President. He added that the President is also bound by the Constitution. Phrasing in a cynical manner MP Anura stated that it is questionable as to whether the government can keep functioning as "Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves". He noted that there has been no government for 10 days now. MP Anura Kumara noted that they are not seeking to protect the UNP but that nobody should allow the logo of democracy to be used to cover up all the stains and grub accumulated over the past 3 years. He then stated that the previous government had their own weaknesses. He added that they had the thieves along with the evidence, but they did not hear the cases, they went on making deals. He then noted that Sagala Rathnayake protected the Nilames. Gamini Senarath was hidden away at their homes, and that this is how they protected the fraudsters. MP Dissanayake stated that the backbenchers should be aware of this. They were not running a government. He concluded stating that once this coup is defeated the JVP will put forward a motion for the dissolution of parliament. However, he noted, "First, let us defeat this coup."
