CAA to crack down on high prices

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Following the recent price reduction of goods such as sugar and lentils, the Consumer Affairs Authority announced that it launched an islandwide probe to identify shop owners selling items at a higher price. The Director General of the Consumer Affairs Authority M.S.M. Fauser added that information on vendors who are selling goods at a higher price could be forwarded to them using the hotline 1977. The wholesale price of a kilogram of sugar stands at Rs.92 while the maximum retail price of a kilogram of sugar has been set at Rs.100.
