Colombo (News1st): The Norwood road between Hatton and Maskeliya was temporarily closed from the New Weligama area due to a cave in.
Residents of six houses were evacuated last Wednesday (October 10) as a result of several cave-ins and landslides in the area. Police requests motorists to use alternative routes to reach their destinations.
Meanwhile, landslide slide warnings have been issued to a number of divisional secretariat areas in the Kalutara district. Accordingly, the Disaster Management Centre has issued warnings for the Walallawita, Bulathsinhala, Agalawaththa, Mathugama, Palindanuwara and Ingiriya areas.
The Meteorological Department says showers and thundershowers can be expected after 2.00pm during the next few days. Showers can be expected in coastal areas during the morning in the Western and Northern Provinces.
The Met Department further states that showers can be expected in Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Northern provinces and in the Batticaloa and Polonnaruwa districts. Strong winds can also be expected as a result of thundershowers.
