Investigations launched into the boat collision

Colombo (News1st): The Fisheries Department has launched an investigation into the death of four Fishermen after a Merchant Vessel and Fishing Trawler collided at sea approximately 30 nautical miles off the Galle Lighthouse. The Search and Rescue Division of the Fisheries Department stated that investigations are currently underway and their first priority is to ascertain what caused the collision. At the time of the incident, a Fast Attack Craft attached to the Southern Naval Command was dispatched to conduct a search and rescue operation. During the search and rescue operation, the Navy was able to rescue one fisherman. After an extensive search, four bodies were recovered with the search continuing for two more. The sole survivor was rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. The bodies of the deceased fishermen were handed over to the Galle Police for post-mortem examination.
