Colombo (News1st) – Five suspects engaged in printing counterfeit currency were arrested in Lunawa, Moratuwa.
A spokesperson to the police said the raid was conducted based on a tip-off received at the Mirihana Special Crimes Unit.
The suspects were arrested along with 15 counterfeit currency notes of Rs. 5000. A laptop, scanner, printer, typewriter and some forged rubber stamps were also seized while in their possession.
The suspects aged 39, 41, 33 and 37 are residents of Lunawa, Koralawella, Egodauyana, and Agulana. Investigations have uncovered fake state certificates and educational certificates in their prints.
The suspects are to be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate Court today (August 26).
