COLOMBO (News 1st) – Reports have emerged that a group of private bus employees are planning to launch a strike action from midnight today (August 15). The strike is to be launched in opposition against a number of changes made by the government including the increase of fines imposed for violation of road rules.
Convenor of the Lanka Private Bus Operators Association, U.K. Kumararathne said that although the relevant authorities were notified of their issues, they are yet to receive a proper solution.
However, the Private Bus Owners Association and the Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association has decided not to support the strike action.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the Ministry of Transport G.S. Withanage said the Ministry has not been informed of any strike, adding that traffic fines have been increased in order to create more disciplined drivers.
