Mahinda Rajapakse on Sri Lankan democracy

Colombo (News 1st) - Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said democracy is getting alienated from the country. He made the statement at a ceremony in Galle to commemorate the 10 year death anniversary of Former Minister Dr. Richard Pathirana. Mahinda Rajapakse stated that he observed at Parliament how the UNP was attacking the President indirectly. He commented on the current situation of the country stating that the main people accused in the Central Bank bond scam are not here, a court was established to suppress cases which are being selected by ministers with the help of the Attorney General. Elaborating further he goes on to say that if the cases are being filed at the request of ministers, this is suppression. He notes that it was established on how the FCID is acting in violation of the law. Concluding he notes that when observing all of these incidents, democracy is gradually moving further away from the country.
