COLOMBO (News 1st) – Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva, has called for a thorough investigation into the train collision that took place in Panaliya which injured 32 people.
The Minister had also ordered General Manager of Railways, S.M. Abeywickrama to conduct the investigations after suspending the driver and assistant of the train involved in the collision. A three-member committee headed by the General Manager of Railways is to conduct investigations into the accident.
Officials at the Railway Control Room note that renovation activities of the railway line, damaged due to the train collision, is underway and that one railway track on the upcountry railway line will be open until the repair work is completed.
