Colombo (News1st) : UNP Galle district Parliamentarian Wijeyapala Hettiarachchi says that members of the UNP are disgusted by the term "common candidate" Addressing a media briefing in Galle today, Hettiarachchi noted that the UNP must field their own candidate for the upcoming presidential election adding that the party would have no objections if that candidate decides to work with other parties and become a common candidate. The MP noted that he had doubts about how the UNP voter base would react if the UNP opts to field a common candidate from outside the party. He went on to note that either Ranil Wickremesinghe or Sajith Premadasa should contest the upcoming Presidential election as their names have been etched into the hearts of all UNPers.
