Colombo (News 1st): Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa speaking in Colombo yesterday (July 22) commented on the attempt to hand over operations of the Mattala Airport to India. Weerawansa questioned the motive behind India taking over the operations of the Mattala airport, the MP questioned whether the motives are commercial in nature or whether there is an ulterior motive behind this move. Recalling details of a book written by former Indian Security advisor Shiva Shankar Menon, Weerawansa stated that India has always seen Sri Lanka as a strategic location for their planes and believed by taking over the operations of the Mattala airport they would be poised to be in a better position to steer the country in a direction of their choosing.
