Colombo (News1st) : A forum on" Budget Proposals for 2019/2020 for Human Capital Development took place in Colombo today. Speaking at the event, State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne commented on the challenges faced by politicians. The State Minister of Finance highlighted the need for Sri Lanka to compete in global markets in order to develop further. He also noted that most of the steps taken by the Government in the education and Health sectors cannot be seen by the people so they question whether the present administration engages in any development work. Wickramaratne claimed that the present Government is building more highways than the previous Government did over the past decade. He noted that more railroads are also being built by the Government. However, the State Minister of Finance does not agree with the policy of investing money in infrastructure as he believes that some of these funds need to be invested in human capital development. This event was organized by the National Human Resources Development Council , the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and the International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka. Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Bryce Hutchesson was also present at the occasion.
