COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali Jayatunga today (8) ordered to release on bail of four suspects, including former Commissioner General of the Department of Motor Traffic, Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe, who were arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
The suspects—Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasinghe, retired Assistant Director of IT Priyantha Bandara Eriyagama, clerk Aththaragama Gedara Dhammika Niroshan, and businessman Maddumage Danushka Nuwan Gunaratna—were granted bail under strict conditions.
The first three suspects were each released on two surety bails of Rs. 1 million each, while the fourth suspect was released on a Rs. 500,000 surety bail.
The Magistrate also imposed a travel ban on all four suspects and ordered that their passports be surrendered to the court.
The case is scheduled to be heard again on November 14.
Meanwhile, an anticipatory bail application filed by Suriya Priyanganie, a former Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Motor Traffic, seeking a court order to prevent her arrest in connection with the same investigation, was rejected by Chief Magistrate Jayatunga.
