COLOMBO (News 1st); President Anura Kumara Dissanayake reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to delivering justice for the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The President was speaking at the felicitation ceremony organized by the Archdiocese of Colombo to mark the 50th Ordination Anniversary of His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith’s sacred priesthood, on Monday (7).

President Dissanayake praised His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith for his calm and composed leadership during one of the darkest chapters in Sri Lanka’s history.

“Especially during the Easter Sunday Attack—a profoundly challenging event that shook the entire nation—His Eminence maintained his calmness, helping prevent further escalation.”

The President acknowledged the Cardinal’s persistent advocacy for justice, noting that in every conversation, His Eminence consistently inquires about steps being taken to ensure justice for the victims. “Sometimes he questions calmly, sometimes with uncertainty, and other times with compelling insistence,” Dissanayake said. “His concern is driven solely by the urgent need to provide rightful justice.”

President Dissanayake pledged to exhaust all avenues to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable. “I will do everything in my power to pursue justice for this cause, refusing to let it fade away with time,” he declared.

He emphasized that this is a challenge the government must confront, even within its own institutions and no matter how difficult it may be, justice must be served.

He acknowledged the difficulty of conducting internal investigations, stating that the government must be willing to question its own ranks if necessary.
