New draft constitution rejected

COLOMBO (News 1st) - It was revealed in Parliament on Thursday (July 19th) that the new draft constitution prepared by the experts' committee had been rejected. MP Dayasiri Jayaseka accused parliamentarians Jayampathi Wickremeratne, M.A. Sumandiran and an individual named Suren Fernando of creating the draft constitution. Dayasiri questioned how these individuals prepared a draft of the new constitution when the entire Parliament was involved in debating and formulating it. The former Sports Minister also revealed a startling detail about the draft of the new constitution. According to MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, the draft allows the Prime Minister, Speaker of Parliament and Opposition leader to impeach the President by working together. MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage who joined the debate revealed that one person who had signed off on the report had not returned to the country in 6 months. Minister Kabir Hashim who eventually joined the debate revealed that the draft constitution has been rejected by the experts' panel.
