Mihin Lanka enjoyed BOI benefits illegally

COLOMBO (News 1st) - It has been revealed that Mihin Lanka Private Limited enjoyed BOI benefits in an apparently illegal manner. The Executive Director for Project Monitoring at the Board of Investments Renuka Weerakoon testified before the Commission today. She was questioned on the letter sent by the CEO of Mihin Lanka Kapila Chandrasena in 2009 to the Investments Department at the BOI requesting for the capital condition to be reduced. However, the Monitoring Department had not received that letter but received a similar letter one year later. From the evidence, it transpired that the BOI has not taken any decision regarding the request and since 2009 Mihin Lanka has enjoyed all the benefits that were given to them since inception. The Commission noted the CEO and Director General of the BOI would be summoned if required to elaborate on this matter. The Commission also added that for some unknown reason no follow-up action had been taken on the matter.
