COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Dengue Control Unit states that 681 new dengue cases have been identified within the last 24 hours.
Acting Director of the Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara,
said that the highest prevalence of dengue is currently reported from the Maharagama MOH area.
In addition, dengue is spreading rapidly in the Matara, Galle, and Ratnapura districts, as well as the Panadura MOH division in the Kalutara district and the Biyagama MOH division in the Gampaha district.
Currently, the number of MOH divisions identified as high-risk areas for dengue spread is 112.
Furthermore, the Director mentioned that, in addition to the Colombo and Gampaha districts, hospitals in the Matara district have also reached their maximum capacity for dengue patients.
So far this year, 46,037 dengue cases have been reported in the country.
The National Dengue Control Unit noted that this is a clear increase compared to the years 2024 and 2025.
The National Dengue Control Unit also stated that 263 schools containing mosquito larvae have been identified.
Entomologist Sakunthala Janaki mentioned that 633 schools have been inspected this year.
Schools, government institutions, and religious places have been identified as the locations where mosquitoes breed most frequently.
Meanwhile, a special discussion regarding dengue control programs will be held tomorrow under the chairmanship of Secretary to the President, Dr. Nanditha Sanath Kumanayake.
All parties in the health sector have been summoned for this meeting.
