Postal strike continues against recruitment process

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The strike action launched by the Postal Trade Union Alliance in protest against the recruitment process continued today as well. Convenor of the Joint trade union alliance, Chinthaka Bandara said that all postal employees across the island have joined the strike action which had impacted postal activities including the distribution of letters and the transportation of cargo. Postmaster Rohana Abeyarathne said that a cabinet paper on providing solutions to the issues of the employees has already been submitted to the Cabinet, while the leave of all postal employees have been cancelled. M.H.M. Haleem , Minister of Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs stated that the requests made by the postal workers are fair adding that the issues have been submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers. The minister promised to resolve the pending issues in a matter of two weeks through a subcommittee.
