COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Customs Department has arrested four suspects at the Bandaranaike International Airport, along with a stock of gold worth over Rs. 8.9 million.
Acting Customs Media Spokesperson, Vipula Minuwanpitiya, said the suspects are residents of Maligawatta - Colombo, Wattala and Jaffna. Minuwanpitiya added that the suspects had been attempting to smuggle gold to Mumbai, India.
Meanwhile, an Italian woman has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport while attempting to smuggle 5.2 kilograms of Hashish worth over Rs. 5 million. According to the Customs Department, the suspect was en-route to Samoa, via Thailand.
