COLOMBO (News 1st): Security forces have taken steps to hand over 187.56 acres of land belonging to the Cement Corporation in Kankesanthurai, Jaffna, for civilian use.
The Ministry of Defence said the land could now be utilized for productive economic and development activities.
Located in the Kankesanthurai West Grama Niladhari Division within the Tellippalai Divisional Secretariat Division in Valikamam North, the land had been used by the Sri Lanka Army since mid-1997.
The relevant documents were formally handed over to Jaffna District Secretary M. Pratheepan by Colonel W. M. A. M. Nissanka, Civil Affairs Coordinating Officer at the Palaly Security Forces Headquarters.
The handover is part of a broader programme to provide state land for the proposed Kankesanthurai Investment Zone.
The Ministry of Defence said the move would help facilitate future investments and streamline economic development activities in the area.
