Katharagama PS Chairman remanded for stoning Police station

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Chairman of the Katharagama Pradeshiya Sabah, Chanaka Amil Ranga and three others have been remanded till the 2nd of May in connection with the recent stoning of the Kataragama Police Station. The incident in question took place during a protest opposite the police station on the 21st of January. The suspects were remanded after they surrendered to the Thissamaharama Magistrates court yesterday (April 23rd). The incident in question occurred on the 21st of  January.  Three other suspects who were earlier arrested in connection with the same incident remain in remand custody. The incident was sparked by a police shooting which claimed the life of a motorcyclist whom the police say defied orders to stop.
