What is the future of the "National Government"?

COLOMBO (News 1^st) - According to the 19^th amendment to the constitution, a recognized political party or  independent group which obtains the highest number of seats in Parliament is capable of forming a National Government. It reads "National Government means, a government formed by the recognized political party or the independent group which obtains the highest number of seats in Parliament together with both other political parties or the independent groups" The United National Party contested the 2015 general election as a component of the United National Front for Good Governance (UNFGG). There were 87 members of the UNP who were elected to parliament in 2015 while the total number of seats secured by the UNFGG stands at 106. Claims are re-emerging that the concept of a national government has been usurped to provide perks and privileges to a few. UPFA MP Former Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara and General Secretary of the People's Intellectual Assembly Attorney-at-Law Crishmal Warnasuriya expressed their views on the National government.
