Over 140 arrested for violence in Kandy

Two youth arrested for causing communal disharmony through social media

COLOMBO (News1st) - Police curfew was reimposed for the Kandy Administrative District excluding the Kandy Municipality, from 8 p.m. today to 5 a.m. tomorrow. Commenting on the ground situation in Kandy, the Police Media Spokesperson said that a total of 146 arrests were made and among them are 11 suspects who violated the curfew. Hence, he noted that they will be produced in courts as per the provisions of the emergency regulations and if found guilty they will be sentenced to 7 years in Prison. He also noted that the 10 who were arrested by the Terrorist Investigation Division for instigating disharmony, were moved to Colombo after obtaining a detention order for 14 days. Furthermore, he said that a 17-year-old and 18-year-old from Colpetty were arrested for spreading information that caused communal disharmony through social media.
