Heavy showers expected in several regions

COLOMBO (News1st) - The Met Department says the showery condition is expected to continue over the island, due to the wavy type disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka. It predicts that showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, Uva, Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and North-central Provinces and in Matale, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya Districts. According to the Met Department, heavy falls exceeding 100mm could be expected at some places in the Western, Eastern, Uva and Sabaragamuwa Provinces and in the Galle, Matara, Matale, Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu Districts. Meanwhile, eight spill gates of the Parakrama Samudra that were opened last evening as a result of heavy rainfall, continue to remain open. Irrigation Engineer of Parakrama Samudra, Asela Udayanga said 1,380 cubic meters of water per second is being released from the Samudraya.
