President Maithripala Sirisena has issued instructions that the renovation of 2400 wewas in the dry zone be expedited.
The President issued the directive at the Special Coordinating Committee Meeting of the Polonnaruwa District which was held at the Thamankaduwa Divisional Secretariat auditorium today.
The renovation activities are aimed at enabling the farming communities to continue with their livelihoods, unhindered, ahead
of the dry season. The President also reviewed the progress on the Kidney Hospital in Polonnaruwa and other institutions.
Speaking at the meeting, he stated that he extends his gratitude to all district secretaries, state workers, the chairman of the Elections Commission and tri-forces who worked tirelessly, with utmost commitment, to hold a peaceful and unbiased election.
Meanwhile, equipment was distributed to 636 beneficiaries in the Dimbulagala Divisional Secretariat area.
The equipment worth Rs.29 million was distributed under the Livelihood Development Programme.
Following the meeting, the President visited a fruit juice stall in the Welikanda Town which is being funded under the programme. The President had a cordial discussion with the owner of the stall.
