Election officials warned over absenteeism

Stern action against officials who fail to report for election duty

The Elections Commission, issuing a release, notes that stern action will be taken against state sector officials who do not report to election duty. The Commission notes that all state sector officials are duty-bound to follow the instructions issued by the Elections Commission in order to ensure that the election is held successfully. The Commission reiterates that failure to follow such instructions could result in a fine of Rs. 100,000, a three-year prison sentence or both as in accordance with article 104/8 of the Constitution.
