Sithija Niran Samarawickrama – is the young gem who ranked 1st in Sri Lanka in the Grade 5 Scholarship, 2016.

After being invited to our News 1st studios in Colombo to speak about his feat of scoring 196 marks, he said the following;

“We do not have enough books in the school library. We do not have a safety fence surrounding the school.”

Sithija had just two requests for us and the people, -books for the school library and a fence around the school.

One year later, News 1st’s public service initiative ‘Gammadda’ fulfilled that very request.

The school is Methodist Primary School in Urugamuwa, Matara. They welcomed our Gammadda team with song and dance performed by little girls of the school.

For a school which educate hundreds of students, it did not have a protective fence and classroom. That was until now.

H.R.I. Damayanthi – the principal of Methodist Primary School said: “.. The Sirasa media network and Gammadda has fulfilled one of the greatest needs of the children of this school. The members of this media network identify issues which escapes the attention of many and fulfills these needs..”

With another project done and dusted, Gammadda powers on,

For the People, By the people.
