The supply of electricity to a number of areas has been hampered following the continuous strike being carried out by members of the Ceylon Electricity Board.

Electricity supply has been disrupted in a number of areas including Anuradhapura and Ampara. Police protection has been provided to three power sub-stations in Anuradhapura.

The strike was launched on Wednesday afternoon.

General Secretary of the CEB Employees’ Union, Ranjan Jayalal, said the strike was launched after discussions with the relevant authorities had failed.

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy noted that employees contracted on a temporary basis, and those who are on probation, and fail to attend work today, will be considered as having resigned their posts.
