The Colombo High Court sentenced the former Chairman of the Rambewa Pradeshiya Sabha, Ranil Madhawa Kamal Nilame to five years in prison on charges of bribery.
Ranil Madhawa Kamal Nilame was proven guilty by the High Court of three charges, including soliciting a bribe of Rs. 100,000, from a youth promising him a job in Korea.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption had filed the case against Ranil Madhawa who obtained the bribe in 2007.
The High Court Judge also imposed a fine of Rs. 40,000 against the former Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman, in addition to the jail term.
