Patients countrywide suffer as doctors strike continue

Patients were severely inconvenienced as a result of the country-wide strike action launched by Government Medical Officers Association, on Friday,  April 07,

Doctors launched the strike in protest over private medical universities.

Executive member of the Association, Dr. Nalinda Herath said several trade unions have joined the strike action.

Dr. Herath also said that the strike will not affect the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, De Soysa Maternity Hospital, Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Peradeniya Children’s Hospital.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Jayasundara Bandara, hasve urged doctors to report to work without making the patients face difficulties during a time where several diseases like Dengue and Influenza A-H1N1 are widespread.
