Minister Lakshman Kiriella says, the ECTA agreement with India will not pave the way for Indian professionals to enter the Sri Lankan job market.
He made this statement in response to an observation made by Parliamentarian Ramesh Pathirana.
Ramesh Pathirana said, IT professionals are worried about ETCA and that this agreement will make the Sri Lankan citizens lose all the opportunities.
“They are really worried about it”, he added, “We (may) lose the opportunities in the Sri Lankan markets to the Indians, so we must be very careful about that.”
In response, Leader of the House Minister Lakshman Kiriella said, they are not allowing a single professional to come and work in Sri Lanka under the agreement.
“Almost all of the professionals, honorable minister, the doctors the accountants and IT professionals, they are vehemently opposing this act. So, we must be very serious”, said MP Kiriella.
